Renew Thailand Driving Licence Renew | 5 Year | Car & Motorcycle
Smooth & stress-free
Renewing your Thai driving license is a necessary task for all residents and expats in Thailand. Whether you drive a car or a motorcycle, it’s crucial to keep your license current, as driving with an expired license can lead to fines, legal repercussions, and complications with insurance claims. However, the renewal process can be time-consuming, especially for foreigners who are not familiar with local procedures and government regulations.
We offer two renewal options to suit your needs:
Normal Service
- Appointment Wait Time: 1 month or more
- Process Duration: 2-3 hours
- Cost:
- THB 4,750 for a car or motorbike license renewal
- THB 5,750 for both car and motorbike licenses
Fast-Track Service
- Appointment Wait Time: Within 1 week (usually 1-3 days)
- Process Duration: 2-3 hours
- Cost:
- THB 5,750 for either a car or motorbike license renewal
- THB 6,750 for both car and motorbike licenses
License Validity and Visa Requirements
The validity of your renewed Thai driving license depends on your visa type:
- Tourist Visa Holders: A renewed license is valid for 2 years.
- Other Visa Types (with a minimum of 1-year validity): A renewed license is valid for 5 years.
To renew your Thai driving license, you will need the following documents:
Passport
- A valid passport is required for identity verification.
Visa
- For tourists: At least 15 days of visa validity is necessary.
- For other visa types (e.g., work, education, retirement): All valid visas are accepted.
Resident Certificate
- You must present a Resident Certificate (issued within the last 30 days), which verifies your address in Thailand. This can be obtained from the local immigration office or police station.
Medical Certificate
- A Medical Certificate from a licensed clinic or hospital, issued within the last 30 days, is needed to confirm you are physically fit to drive.
Thai Driving License
- The original copy of your Thai driving license must be presented. If the license has expired:
- If expired less than 1 year ago, the normal renewal process applies.
- If expired for more than 1 year but less than 2 years, you will need to take a theory exam.
- If expired for more than 2 years, you must undergo the entire new driving license application process (but you will be issued a 5-year license).
At Experthai, we handle the entire renewal process for you, ensuring that all requirements are met and the correct documentation is submitted. Here’s how we make renewing your Thai driving license easy:
